WhatsApp is now free: Is this a move to curb free advertising forever?
WhatsApp – the world’s most popular messaging app – which is owned by Facebook, the world’s number one social networking website, just went free! Purchased two years ago for a whopping $19 billion, it doesn’t look like the company has made much profits by charging people a fee of 99 cents, Moreover, taking under consideration the fact that most users who joined the service before the subscription fee was introduced, have been using the service free of cost since inception.
So why purchase a product for so much money, and not even try to monetise it? What does Facebook really want to do with the messaging app service?
The reason given by WhatsApp for discontinuing its annual subscription fee is that it hasn’t really worked out, as planned earlier. “For many years, we have asked some people to pay a fee for using WhatsApp after their first year. As we have grown, we have found that this approach hasn’t worked well,” said WhatsApp in a blogpost. Despite not being able to charge its hundreds of millions of users the annual fee, WhatsApp said it would not subject its users to advertisements.

Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung Galaxy S7 leak confirms Exynos chipset

I almost forget that the Samsung Galaxy S7 hasn’t been officially revealed by Samsung yet. Why? Because we’ve seen so many details about the phone already, despite hearing almost none of it from Samsung themselves. This time, the news comes from a popular benchmarking site.
We’ve reported for some time that the S7 would come in at least two flavors. One with an Exynos processor, and another with a Snapdragon inside. We’ve had some pretty good reports on what the phone will likely contain, and now some of those have been all but confirmed, thanks to the most recent leak.
AnTuTu’s account on Weibo spelled out pretty much everything that we already assumed about the forthcoming phone. The model in question is the SM-G930F. In addition to the new Exynos 8890, it also shows the phone having a 5.1″ 1440 x 2560 pixels screen, 12 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately no benchmarks were actually posted, as the phone is “still in the testing phase.”
